The "Lycos" web index provides a probabilistic ("fuzzy") search across some 600,000+ (Aug 1994) documents on the World Wide Web. The server runs at http://lycos.cs.cmu.edu/ and is managed by Michael Mauldin.

This mailing list is to track developments of this particular server, to note interesting parts of its indexing engine and their potential application to other unwieldy information retrieval problems (e.g. Usenet news), and generally to stay informed about similar stuff.
