Our Jeeps
2006 JT Sport |
No Name
2006 Jeep Wrangler Sport, 6 speed manual
Bought 2005
Kept stock
The TJ was our ranch vehicle, bought new for $26k in 2005, it stayed
at the ranch in Liberty Hill while we flew back and forth between
Pittsburgh PA and Austin.
Both daughters learned to drive a manual transmission in this Jeep.
It also was ued to pull a small flatbed trailer to pick up bales
of hay.
It was a fun little Jeep, but aside from driving all over the ranch,
it was never wheeled.
Sold in 2011 for $16k with only 3k miles on it.

The Deuce
In 2010 we bought a 1956 Kaiser-Jeep Deuce and a Half cargo truck.
The best feature was the Whistler multifuel engine.
We drove it a few times, but after a long trip, the brakes leaked
dry, and we were never able to properly bleed them.
Sold 2021

Our first wheeling rig, the Toad Rover was purchased used from
the service manage Mike at Nyle Maxwell. It was already lifted,
but was painted the original factory black.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel, 100k miles
Bought new in 2013, the Grand Cherokee is Debbie's daily driver.
We ordered it built from scratch in 2013, and it cost $65,000.
It was delayed about four months waiting for the EPA and Jeep to approve
the transmission and mileage of the diesel Grand Cherokee's.
Debbie loves this vehicle, and it's given good service for nearly 10 years.

Thing 2
2006 Liberty CRD, 152k miles
Thing 2 is a near duplicate of Thing 1: same make, model, and year.
Thing 1 is black and Thing 2 is navy blue, so they are almost the
same color.
Thing 2 was bought from a small car lot for a mere $11k in 2015
with 140k miles on it. Its purpose was to be a spare for Thing 1.
The Liberty diesel was basically a prototype commissioned by
Dieter Zetsche
to attempt to bring European style small diesel cars to America.
Since Jeep and Chrysler were owned by Daimler Benz in 2005, Thing 1
and Thing 2 are basically Mercedes Benzes.
Thing 2 has served mainly as a spare car for our kids when their rides
have to go into the shop.

The EcoToad
2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon EcoDiesel, 600 miles
At the Overland Expo in Flagstaff AZ in May of 2014,
FCA Chief Jeep designer Mark T Allen
hosted a workshop on the coming diesel Wrangler.
I sat in the front row and promised him that if Jeep made a diesel
Wrangler, I would buy one.
Then in October 2022, while on a Jeep trip to the Black Rock Deert
in Navada, I read that FCA was discontinuing the diesel engine
option on the Wrangler by the end of the month.
The first thing I did after getting back home was to march in to my
Jeep dealer and order a new Rubicon EcoDiesel with all the options.
Only 5 weeks later I took delivery of another all-black Wrangler, orange
having been dropped as a color for 2023.
Mark Allen, wherever you are, know that I kept my promise... you built
a diesel Wrangler, and I bought one.
