Team Toad: Wolf Caves, Texas

In May of 2023 I visited Wolf Caves, LLC just off Highway 29 West of Mason, Texas. Wolf Caves is a privately-owned ranch with 430 acres of granite outcropping,

I was there for Wheelers for the Wounded - Texas annual event, where Jeepers give rides to wounded veterans and their familes on Texas Hill Country offroad trails.

My biggest challenge was packing properly, since the goal was to keep all the seats empty for the passengers. But since I had a good week to prepare, I showed up with four empty seats (counting the center seat in the back).

My group was a nice family of three from San Antonio, so everyone got a window.

We stayed on a yellow trail, but a few of us on 37s got high-centered more than once. The EcoToad was the third most damaged vehicle... one JK broke a CV on the front axle, the Gladiator suffered lots of rear bumper damage (understandably), and the EcoToad crunched the right front fender.

At least the running lights and turn signal still worked, so I could drive home legally.

The first time I got "turtled", the JK in front of me pulled me forward with a strap. The second time I used my winch to get the front tires back on the ground.

In the end I had fun, pushed my own boundaries a little, and verified that my new phone mount location allowed the AC to keep the phone cool for a whole day of wheeling.
